Project 6: Artist Hommage Painting

This painting was our main project for the entire course. It consisted, as the name suggest, in giving homage to an old piece of art, even recents times, and modernizing it, making it ours.

It all stater with a limited choice of 5 pieces, where we later on recreated them exactly on our notebooks with medium of our choices. After we had to generated ideas out of them, we could also mix and match between the pieces we chose.

From an initial struggle with my idea, I was later on able to land on a concrete vision by giving homage to "Girl at the Mirror" of Norman Rockwell. Divided at the beginning by two proposal, I decided to head with the final vision seen below.

This piece is called "Rumination", this word refers to obsessive, repetitive overthinking. It involves endlessly analyzing or dwelling on past or present events, without reaching a solution. Simply put, did you ever fixate on “Why did I say that?” or “If I did this differently, would things have been different?”. In the case of this painting, those thoughts are not far off from what the subject is thinking.
